Book of Delaney I

Dark, mean clouds approached
the interstate horizon
where Delaney drove.
"Every storm hides a rainbow,"
optimism fueled her voice.

A twister approached,
obstructing the road ahead
from Delaney's eyes.
The great winds forced her off-road
as branches snapped under wheel.

Her grip choked the wheel,
pushing her DeLorean
beyond its limit.
She swerved between every tree
before she struck a boulder!

Natural dead ends
exist in the wilderness,
where the lost end up.
Delaney flew from her car,
her shoes flew from beneath her.

A murmuring voice
wondered if she was alive
when her eyes opened.
She sat in an old cabin
speechless, sitting in a cage.

Delaney heeded
panicked warnings from a dwarf
in another cage.
"Your arms are longer than mine,"
the dwarf called to Delaney.

"Where should I reach them?"
Delaney replied to him.
"Look above your head,
the fear-monger hung up keys
that unlock both our cages!"

"He didn't take them?"
Delaney asked. "Their jingle
attracts cats," he said.
Delaney freed the dwarf. "We're
in North Carolina, right?"
