Book of Epilogues V: Prologue
Equilibrium
arrived with the morning dew.
Mary called out, "Rose?"
Her voice echoed through the halls
under the roof of their home.
Rose answered, "Mary,
I can't believe it. We're home!"
Scarborough sun rays
gave the coral paint a glow.
"Let's go check on the townsfolk."
Locking the front door,
Rose and Mary noticed Sage
under her jacked car.
Mary asked Sage, "Where's Parsley?"
Sage said, "Following his gut."
Mary laughed, "Of course."
Rose inspected the car jack,
placed masterfully.
"We're heading into town, Sage.
Won't you join us? Take a break."
Sage refused at first,
but her stomach protested.
They walked together.
Upon entering the town,
a mob confronted Parsley.
Don recalled that song
when he returned to New York
in nineteen twenty,
waking from a long, strange dream
to the sound of falling coins.
Her smile greeted him,
"Sleeping on the job today?"
He chuckled, "Lunch break."
Amelia said, "What lunch?
You must be tired and hungry."
Don picked up his cup,
"Our lunch is on me today!"
Amelia laughed,
"You're stealing all of my lines!
Can you sing that song again?"
