Book of Time VII

Sage opened her eyes
to the chill of open air
numbing her fatigue.
Though her seatbelt strapped her in,
half of the car was missing.

The DeLorean
sat in an emerald field
covered with dead leaves.
Delaney had been driving
with William behind her.

Sage asked, "What happened?
The Elfin Knight threw his sword
and I just saw white."
Unbuckling her seatbelt,
her shoulder thumped with sharp pain.

She opened the door
of the rear passenger side,
a cold wind blowing.
"This cannot be Scarborough,
is it twenty-twenty-four?"

A band of robbers
hiding among the forest
of tall twisted trees
spotted Sage and the half-car.
One said to another, "Boss,

you won't believe this!"
Swiping the binoculars,
the boss did believe.
"Look sharp, her machine is ours."
The robbers sprung an ambush.

"Where'd this car come from,
and why is half of it gone?"
Four armed men crept close.
Sage replied, "What year is it?"
The band leader stood surprised.

"Nineteen ninety-two.
Now, I need an answer too."
Sage hardly let him finish,
"I came here from the future.
You guys want to be rich, right?"
