Book of Delaney IV
In the morning sun,
Delaney made her way through
the fire-damaged woods.
"Sweet Carolina," she said
when a helmet rolled her way.
An armored helmet
tumbled on the yellow bricks.
Delaney took it,
bringing the helmet closer.
She said, "It's too big for me."
She reached a clearing,
having traveled a long way
beyond the crash site.
Standing in the clearing,
a lone headless samurai.
The samurai moved,
slicing as Delaney ducked.
She returned its head
but the samurai attacked
until a man cut him down.
