Book of Mary I
Washington Square Park—
Mary's chosen location
for her art pop-up
brought many locals her way,
but few commissions or sales.
The window-shoppers
gravitated to the sound
of a street drummer's
rhythmic flourish echoing
across the metro meadow.
People cheered, impressed
that the drummer danced without
dropping his straw hat.
Onlookers primed their cellphones
and clapped when the drummer bowed.
Suddenly, a line
formed outside Mary's pop-up
due to word of mouth.
Mary saw that the drummer's
head was stuck in his small book.
