Book of Don III

The ignited engine
sputtered and sparked with a hiss
as Sage took the wheel.
Parsley shouted, "All aboard!"
Mary and Don came running.

Delaney stopped them,
"Mary, look after those two."
Mary smiled, "Of course."
Don asked, "You're not joining us?"
She responded, "Not this time."

So, she stayed behind.
William stood beside her
with one last warning,
"Make sure you're back before dusk,
the roads are tougher at night."

Sage said, "Don't worry,
you taught us both how to drive."
William replied,
“You still have a lot to learn."
Delaney said, "So do we."

Their seatbelts clicked in
and Sage put the car in drive,
steering from the curb.
As their home faded from view,
Sage reached peak velocity.

Don gripped the car seat,
"The ledge," he yelled, "watch the ledge!"
Mary remembered
Don was fast asleep when he
first climbed into the EV.

Mary said to Don,
"You might want to close your eyes."
Don responded, "Why?!"
Sage steered the DeLorean
off road and into the sky.

Through the autumn fog,
she merged onto the highway
hidden in the clouds.
Veiled by vapor, they landed
with nothing but green in sight.
